It has been a blazing hot start to summer here in Ottawa, and the first generation of Hypena opulenta is ahead of schedule. Last year (2019) on July 1, we found eggs and first instars. Today, July 3, 2020, I saw damage caused by 3rd and 4th instars (4th instar larva pictured above). DSV is looking drought stressed, but we have watched it put out fresh shoots and leaves following drought in past years. Hoping for a good second generation!
